Collegiate experiences

We provide opportunities for you to feel like a student on each campus. In addition to the traditional tour, you'll eat in dining halls and meet with our Campus Directors in student centers. Occasionally, you will have the option to attend a campus event, such as a basketball game or play. When possible, we encourage you to attend a class.

Luxury motor coaches

We only charter the highest-rated motorcoach companies. Yes, they cost more, but we are committed to providing the safest, most comfortable trip.

Specifically, we require:

  • Modern fleet with our coach no older than three years
  • WiFi with electrical outlets
  • Television monitors with DVD
  • Seat belts
  • Restrooms
  • Reclining leather seats and tray tables (not always available)
  • Experienced drivers with a perfect record (as noted by the U.S. Department of Transportation and FMCSA)
  • Excellent maintenance records (as noted by the U.S. Department of Transportation and FMCSA)

Highly-rated, immaculate hotels

On an American College Road Trip, you will stay at Hilton properties. Usually, it will be a Home2 Suites, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites, or Embassy Suites.

Similar to college visits, some things cannot be decided without seeing for yourself. Our accommodation decisions are based on personal visits to each property, not just recommendations from others or online sites. We meticulously evaluate sleeping rooms and additional amenities at dozens of hotels to ensure a comfortable and convenient experience.

When selecting hotels, we look for:

  • Exceptional properties -- preferably less than 5 years old
  • Large suite rooms (large is a relative word in some cities)
  • Queen-size beds
  • Private shower curtain (instead of glass door)
  • A safe, secure environment
  • Indoor pools (if possible)

* In some locations, we select Marriott properties.

Sightseeing in great American cities

To fully evaluate a college, you must also consider its greater surroundings. We partner with local guides to provide a highlight tour of each city's major sites. Our tours include overnights in some of America's greatest cities: New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, and Austin.

Campus Directors

Unique to American College Tours, an undergraduate student will be your personal liaison at each university. These students were carefully selected by American College Tours for their interpersonal, organizational and scholastic abilities. Each Campus Director is committed to making the most of our time on their campus, as well as answering your questions before and after our visit. The information they provide may be a significant factor in your decision-making process.

Less stress & more fun

College visits can be stressful. Traveling with other students, however, lightens the mood. Plus, all the details have been handled by us. You can focus on the campuses and have fun with friends. Many students leave on the trip without knowing another participant. Before long, however, they have many new friends! Our activities and events help facilitate friendships.

Safe & secure

From the selection of our motor coaches to our hotels, your safety is our primary concern. Our hotels are located in safe neighborhoods with nearby medical facilities. Our drivers have a perfect record. Our charters have the most modern, well-maintained fleets. Additionally, we hire our own evening security guards. Tour directors and most group leaders are educators with first-aid certification.

Program fee includes most everything

From the point of departure, our motorcoach tours are all-inclusive. The fee includes all travel costs, accommodations, sightseeing fees, tickets to events, materials, security, and  some meals. You'll need money for some meals (as noted in the itinerary), t-shirts, other souvenirs, snacks, and optional events (announced prior to each tour). Flights included in a Road Trip's itinerary -- such as San Francisco to Los Angeles -- is included in the program fee. Please note travel by any means to the departure city is not included.
